This September, Filofax will be part of a historical revival like no other: recreated in glamorous mid-century detail, the brand will be celebrating its 97-year-old heritage on Goodwood Revival’s pop-up vintage high street, next to the race circuit. Visitors will enter into the true spirit of 1950s shopping sophistication and become immersed in our period themed environment.
Filofax was established in 1921. The brand name was coined by Grace Scurr, a secretary at the company, who created the name for it’s innovation, from what it represented; a ‘file of facts’. Grace later saved the company from almost total annihilation when its offices were blitzed during World War II, with all the company records going up in flames. Luckily Grace had all the relevant company information saved in her Filofax, which was kept safely in her bunker over those fateful nights. So proud was the business of her commitment, Grace went on to become chairwoman, retiring in 1955.
“Even though we became iconic in the 80’s, our true heritage stretches back to the early 1900s,” says Julia Langhein, Marketing and Creative Director. “The brand and its products have stood the test of time, as a multitude of gadgets and alternatives have come and gone. The products inherent flexibility has ensured its evolution and proven a true classic never goes out of fashion.”
